Working with and Employing People with Disabilities in The Philippines

About the Workshop

This series of workshops is designed to support companies throughout The Philippines employ staff with a disability in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities  signed by the Philippines in 2007.

Developed and delivered by the Australian College of Disability and Community Services (ACDCS) in partnership with Career Consultants Network (CCN).

Workshops are interactive delivered online using Google Meet  with a maximum of 20 participants in each workshop series.

Each workshop series goes for five

hours delivered in 2 x 2.5 hour sessions.

Topics Covered:

  • What is disability?  
  • What are our obligations under the UNCPRD ?
  • What are reasonable accomodations?
  • Acquired disabilities and long term health conditions from COVID19  - how is The Philippines Industry responding with reasonable accomodations?
  • What is the global experience of employing people with a disability with a focus on several Australian case studies?
  • Is it sufficient to employ people with a disability or is there more we need to do to be inclusive?
  • What assistive technologies exist to support successful inclusion of people with a disability?
  • Moving away from a deficit mindset and capitalising on the opportunities for industry and The Philippines that come with an abilities focus for all staff.
  • Six steps to inclusive practice in the workplace.

The cost of this workshop will be:

$500pp or Corporate Rate $5000 for up to 20 participants

Presenters

Dr. Sharon Kerr has had over 30 years experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities and is widely recognized as having expertise in maximizing student engagement for students with intellectual, sensory, learning, psychological and physical disabilities. Her PhD thesis was in the area of supporting Indigenous students with a disability.

Dr Michael Millington MA Ph.D Cert IV T&A, brings to ACDCS a wealth of experience and knowledge in the area of disability and community services.  With experience as both a practitioner and researcher in the areas of rehabilitation psychology, special education and education psychology, Michael has specialisation in supporting people with a disability in the workplace along with the empowerment of people with a disability, advocacy and inclusive community development.  Having published over 90 academic papers, reports and book chapters, Michael brings a strength of evidence based practice to the courses taught by ACDCS.  Michael believes in a lived philosophy based on social justice values and has framed his career on  the personal/professional mission, “Full community inclusion in a fully inclusive community”
